Coffee County approves purchase of three sheriff vehicles under USDA grant

The Coffee County Board of Commissioners on March 1 approved purchasing three replacement vehicles for the Sheriff’s Office from Brannen Motor Company after county staff said Brannen was the only dealer able to deliver 2021 models and USDA authorized the purchase under an existing grant.
County Administrator Wesley Vickers presented three bids: Hardy Chevrolet $35,705, Brannen Motor Company $36,800, and Fender Automotive Group $37,200. Vickers told the board that Hardy and Fender could not deliver 2021 model vehicles in the county’s required timeframe and that USDA approved buying from Brannen so the county could meet grant conditions.
Commissioner Ted O'Steen moved to approve the purchase of three vehicles from Brannen Motor Company; Vice-Chairman AJ Dovers seconded the motion, and the board unanimously approved it. Vickers said the county will sell the replaced vehicles and use SPLOST funds to cover any remaining cost not covered by the grant.
The board did not specify a delivery date in the meeting; staff will coordinate procurement and disposition of replaced vehicles through county procedures.
