Coffee County proclaims Childhood Cancer Awareness, declares October Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Coffee County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 7 approved two proclamations recognizing community awareness months.
County Attorney Tony Rowell read a proclamation declaring September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month; Commissioner Ted O'Steen moved to approve the proclamation, Commissioner Jimmy Kitchens seconded and the vote was unanimous.
Michelle Girtman, director of Magnolia House, addressed the board to thank commissioners for their support in the fight against domestic violence. Rowell then read a proclamation declaring October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month; Commissioner AJ Dovers moved to approve, Commissioner Ted O'Steen seconded and the board approved unanimously.
Both proclamations are symbolic recognitions of public awareness and do not carry regulatory or budgetary changes.
