Coffee County commissioners approve 4‑H proclamation, authorize transit grant application and award van purchase

Coffee County commissioners met Oct. 4, 2021, in the Commissioners Meeting Room and unanimously approved a set of routine and programmatic actions, including a proclamation recognizing National 4‑H Week, the appointment of a county voting delegate for the 2022 legislative session and authorization to apply for federal transit funding.
The board named Chairman Oscar Paulk as Coffee County’s voting delegate for the 2022 legislative session after a motion by Commissioner Jimmy Kitchens and a second from Commissioner Johnny Wayne Jowers. Chairman Paulk chaired the meeting and presided over roll call and formalities.
Ms. Chalanda Woods, County 4‑H program assistant, thanked the commission for its support of the local 4‑H program. County Attorney Tony Rowell read a Proclamation recognizing National 4‑H Week (Oct. 3–9, 2021). The board approved the proclamation on a motion by Commissioner Jowers with a second from Commissioner Kitchens.
County Administrator Wesley Vickers reviewed three bids for a 2022 high‑roof Ford Transit van intended for the 4‑H office. The bids were Woody Folsom Ford at $48,895.00; Anderson Ford at $43,847.76; and Brannen Motor Company at $42,900.00. Vickers recommended awarding the purchase to Anderson Ford citing its local presence and a bid that was $947.76 higher than the low bid. The board approved the Anderson Ford bid for $43,847.76 (motion by Commissioner Ted O'Steen; seconded by Commissioner Johnny Wayne Jowers).
The board also approved a resolution authorizing Coffee County to file an application with the Georgia Department of Transportation and the U.S. Department of Transportation for assistance under Title 49 U.S.C. §5311, designating the Southern Georgia Regional Commission to execute the grant. Commissioner Ted O'Steen moved the resolution; Vice‑Chairman A.J. Dovers seconded the motion and the board voted unanimously to approve it.
Other routine business approved by unanimous votes included the minutes from prior meetings, the meeting agenda, and a list of Road Department items declared surplus to be listed on GovDeals (including a 2000 Ford F150, a 2006 Kubota tractor and multiple mowers).
