Coffee County commissioners approve road and drainage projects, opt out of mobile-home decals and amend records policy

The Coffee County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 7 approved multiple routine resolutions and professional-services agreements, including contracts with Statewide Engineering for street, drainage and resurfacing projects funded in part by Department of Transportation programs.

County Administrator Wesley Vickers reviewed three Statewide Engineering professional-services agreements (SWE#21-3361 for street and drainage improvements on Callaway Drive, Larkspur Drive, Ashby Drive and Sanibel Court; SWE#21-3369B for 2022 LMIG resurfacing; and SWE#21-3360 for 2021 LMIG safety striping). The board unanimously approved all three agreements.

Separately, commissioners approved an amendment to the county records-retention plan authorizing the Tax Commissioner to dispose of tax-digest records as the commissioner deems appropriate; Vickers said the Heritage Museum requested historical digests and the Tax Commissioner will record what is released. The board also adopted a resolution electing not to require mobile-home decals under Senate Bill 193, as allowed by state law.

Vickers told the board the county had used American Rescue Plan funds for employee vaccination incentives and premium-pay bonuses and was reviewing infrastructure projects; he said the county had received $4.2 million in ARP funding to date. Jason Whiddon announced a first reading of a separate rezoning application (Alfredo Cuello for 4.13 acres at 2225 Highway 221 North); no vote was taken on that item.

All votes recorded at the meeting were unanimous unless noted otherwise. The board adjourned at 11:03 a.m.
