Minnehaha County backs Deadwood grant application for Multi‑Cultural Center sprinkler upgrade

The Minnehaha County Commission on Sept. 22 approved Resolution MC20‑62 supporting the Multi‑Cultural Center of Sioux Falls’ application to the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission’s Outside of Deadwood Grant Program to rehabilitate an outdated sprinkler system at the county‑owned Sioux Falls Coliseum.
Christy Nicolaisen, executive director of the Multi‑Cultural Center, requested the Commission's support for a $17,877 project. Facilities Director Mark Kriens described the current sprinkler system and the proposed intelligent replacement. The resolution states the Grant Fund awards no more than 50% of project costs and the Multi‑Cultural Center will demonstrate matching funds and is not seeking county funding.
Commissioner Barth moved to approve the resolution; Commissioner Karsky seconded. The motion passed on a roll call vote of three ayes (Barth, Bender, Karsky).
The resolution records the Commission’s formal support and will accompany the Center’s grant application. Next steps are submission of the application and, if awarded, project implementation using the Center’s matching funds and the Deadwood grant portion.
