Minnehaha County adopts 5‑year transportation and bridge improvement plan

The Minnehaha County Board of Commissioners adopted the county’s 5‑Year (2021–2025) Transportation and Bridge Improvement Plan on Sept. 29 after a presentation by Highway Superintendent DJ Buthe.
Buthe said county highway staff held a public hearing on Sept. 17 at the Crooks Community Center and notified more than 150 local entities; three people attended. He reported updated cost estimates and corrections to the Projected Revenues and Sources page under local funds: Invested Interest for 2021 should be $10,000, Permit Fees $40,000, and Prorate/Port of Entry $424,000. With these corrections, the 2021 total projected local revenues are $13,748,331.
Motion by Commissioner Cindy Heiberger, seconded by Commissioner Dean Karsky, adopted the plan and authorized the chair to sign the cover form and certification. The motion passed 5‑0. The plan’s adoption allows project budgeting and positions county projects to compete for BIG Fund resources where eligible.
