County hears COVID-19 update, considers aligning employee mask policy with City of Sioux Falls; expects $12.7M in recovery funds

Jill Franken of the City of Sioux Falls Health Department briefed the Minnehaha County Commission via Zoom on Oct. 6, 2020, reporting an increase in positive COVID-19 cases, current hospitalization rates, and the citys new mask policy for employees. Franken recommended continued social distancing; Commissioner Jean Bender expressed interest in issuing a county employee mask policy that would mirror the citys approach. The commissioners agreed to discuss a county mask policy at the Department Head meeting scheduled for Oct. 6, 2020, at 1:30 p.m.
Separately, Kim Adamson, the countys finance and budget officer, briefed the commission on the Countys State COVID Recovery Fund claims status and reported the county expects to claim a full allocation of $12.7 million by the end of 2020. Adamson said the funds will be recorded in the General Fund as federal grant revenue.
During public comment, Emergency Management Director Jason Gearman raised concerns about current weather and elevated fire danger; he said a fire-ban resolution will be brought for consideration at the Oct. 13, 2020, commission meeting.
The meeting minutes record the briefings and the commissions agreement to consider aligning the county employee mask policy with the City of Sioux Falls; no formal county mask policy was adopted at the Oct. 6 meeting.
