Commission delays lien compromise, appoints Carol Twedt and approves $15,100 budget reduction

At its Nov. 10 session, the Minnehaha County Commission took several administrative actions.
Commission Assistant Melinda Storley briefed the commission on a lien compromise application covering three liens with a combined balance of $10,079.61. Storley said the applicant had paid $2,904.20 to date and that additional 2020 legal charges had not yet been recorded. Commissioners expressed concern that there is no pending real estate transaction to justify compromise, that additional charges remain pending, and that liens accrue no interest. By motion, the commission took no action and directed the applicant may reapply at a later time. The motion passed by roll call vote: 5 ayes.
At the request of Assistant Commission Administrative Officer Craig Dewey, the commission appointed Carol Twedt to a five-year term on the Housing and Redevelopment Commission; the motion passed by roll call vote: 5 ayes.
Human Services Assistant Director Lori Montis requested a budget reduction relating to One Sioux Falls funds. The county had received $25,000 in April 2020 to provide motel assistance; remaining funds were returned to the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation when motel assistance was discontinued. Commissioners approved a budget reduction of $15,100.01 to reflect the returned funds; motion passed 5 ayes.
The minutes record these administrative decisions and note that planning and zoning hearing notices were authorized separately to set Dec. 1, 2020 hearings on right-of-way vacations.
