Minnehaha County declares gravel pit surplus, accepts $900,000 appraisal

Minnehaha County commissioners on Nov. 17 approved Resolution MC20-67 to declare a county-owned gravel pit (Record ID 93053) surplus and to accept an appraisal value of $900,000 in preparation for public sale by auction.
Assistant Commission Administrative Officer Craig Dewey presented the staff recommendation and appraisal results, saying the appraisal board set the parcel’s best use as a mining operation. The resolution describes the parcel (Plat of TRACT 1 SIERRA ADDITION in the SE¼ of the SE¼ of Section 6, Township 101 North, Range 50 West) and instructs staff to proceed with statutorily authorized appraisal and sale procedures.
Commissioner Heiberger moved to approve Resolution MC20-67; Commissioner Karsky seconded. The motion passed by roll-call vote: 5 ayes. Maggie Gillespie, Senior Deputy State’s Attorney, commented on whether an additional separate motion listed on the agenda was necessary.
The resolution states the county will retain possession of the law-enforcement shooting range located on the property. The commission authorized staff to obtain appraisal documentation through statutorily authorized procedures cited in the resolution.
