Conewago supervisors approve $46,433.58 in payments and vote to seek DCED grant for leaf vacuum

Conewago Township Board of Supervisors on Feb. 3 approved a check detail totaling $46,433.58 and voted to pursue a Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) grant to replace the township’s aging leaf vacuum.

Treasurer Karen Brandt presented the check detail and budget-to-actual figures; Chair Mimi Legro moved to approve the check detail “subject to audit,” and Supervisor Frank Graybill seconded. The board voted unanimously to carry the motion.

The vote on the DCED grant followed public comment and staff discussion. Vice-Chair Mike Long moved to apply for a grant to fund replacement of the existing leaf vacuum; Graybill seconded and the motion carried with all members voting in favor. The board did not specify the grant amount to be requested; staff were authorized to begin the application process.

During public comment, resident Dan King asked why a grant was declined previously; Chair Mimi Legro responded that “a grant opportunity was never presented to the Supervisors.” Resident Heidi Tobias asked when parks expenditures would be reimbursed; Treasurer Karen Brandt said reimbursement has been applied for and is expected soon. The board did not provide a specific reimbursement date.

The board also approved the Jan. 6 meeting minutes during the same session.

Next steps: staff will prepare and submit the DCED grant application and continue to process the parks reimbursement. The public record shows the meeting adjourned to an executive session at 8:02 p.m. for personnel matters.
