Board gets management search update; public asks for Friends' financial reports

At its Dec. 30, 2025 meeting the Dawn Theater Governance Board received an update on its management search and heard a public comment requesting financial transparency from the Friends of the Dawn Theater.
TIFA staff and Targeted Development Committee representatives reported that three letters of interest in theater management had been received and that two candidates had completed walkthroughs of the venue. The Targeted Development Committee will engage directly with candidates in consultation with the Governance Board and the Friends of the Dawn Theater.
During public comment, attendee Jack McLain asked for financial reports from the Friends of the Dawn Theater, specifically requesting context for grant monies and expressing concern about the Friends receiving one-third of net profits. McLain also urged the board to pursue more events that are suitable for minors, saying the majority of events at the venue are for 21+ audiences with only two exceptions. The minutes do not record a board commitment to provide the requested financial statements.
On member round-table, Tim Sullivan stated that the Friends should have a key to the facility; Aidan Sullivan (Friends of the Dawn Theater) responded that the Friends do not need a key and that the current key-loan system has worked well. The meeting adjourned at 6:58 PM; the next meeting is Jan. 26, 2026 at 5:30 PM.
