Supporters commend Tall Pines Solar; one resident warns of Roanoke Creek Corridor impacts

At the Aug. 2 special meeting, a string of public commenters expressed support for the Tall Pines Solar proposal and described community benefits; several supporters said they endorse the project and its planned local contributions.
Shannon Feinman described a beneficiaries’ coalition linked to the project that would allocate part of its proceeds to help Randolph-Henry High School graduates pay for one year of community college or workforce certification. Multiple other speakers — Laine Gunn, Bill Devin, Meredith Feinman, Jason Goodman, Brenda Vassar, Cornell Goldman, James Martin and Terry Brown — voiced support for the project during the public-comment period.
In contrast, PK Pettus raised an environmental concern focused on the Roanoke Creek Corridor. Pettus presented a map showing potential solar projects in Charlotte County and asked who would manage the cumulative environmental impacts on waterways and corridors if multiple facilities proceed. The meeting record shows no Board-level assignment of responsibility for a county-wide impact-review process at that session; staff and the applicant indicated surveys and mitigation measures but did not commit to a countywide cumulative-impact management plan during the meeting.
The public-comment period closed and the Board proceeded to votes on the siting agreement and CUP. The record shows broad citizen support in spoken comments but at least one resident requested further attention to watershed and corridor impacts.
