Sheriff Steve Nelson brought to the board’s attention the county code provisions and Attorney General Bird’s opinion (SF2442/AG Bird’s Opinion) relating to sheriff compensation. Nelson stated he was content with his salary but wanted the board to be aware of the code and the opinion.
Chairman Louis Stauter reported he contacted the county attorney and surveyed surrounding counties; Stauter said neighboring counties believed their sheriff pay was appropriate and did not require adjustment at this time. The minutes record this as a discussion item; the board took no formal action to change compensation at the Feb. 24 meeting.
