Tracy Seeman, Chairman of the Benton County Board of Supervisors, opened a Jan. 5, 2026 budget work session at the Benton County Service Center and told department heads to prepare fiscal 2027 budget proposals assuming current wage levels will remain unchanged.
The board — Supervisors Tippett, Seeman and Volz — reviewed budget parameters with department leaders, emphasizing that ‘‘uncontrollable increases’’ are placing uneven burdens on county departments and that two active union contracts constrain personnel costs. Department heads were instructed to focus on maintaining essential services within existing staffing and financial limits while finalizing their submissions.
The board clarified that any future changes to wages or budgets would depend on overall budget conditions and further direction from the board; the transcript did not specify triggers, timelines or a deadline for possible adjustments. Department heads were directed to submit budgets consistent with the wage guidance to Benton County Auditor Hayley Rippel; the transcript did not specify a submission due date.
No formal funding allocations or policy changes were approved during the session. The meeting concluded with a motion by Supervisor Tippett, seconded by Supervisor Volz, to adjourn; Tippett, Seeman and Volz voted aye and the meeting was adjourned at 11:03 a.m.
The full resolutions and finalized budget materials will be available in the Auditor’s office and on the county website, per the meeting notice.
