Safety committee says Chapter 619 of Parma Heights code needs updating; changes to be brought before council

The Parma Heights City Council on Nov. 17 received an update from the Safety Committee about proposed revisions to Chapter 619 of the city code. Councilwoman Maruschak, the Safety Committee chair, said, "we realized that some of Chapter 619 was outdated and not relevant any longer."
Maruschak said the committee and the Law Director conducted a due‑diligence review and identified several provisions that relate to state regulations that have since changed. She noted that sections 619.09 through 619.12 were tied to obsolete state rules, that section 619.03 was reviewed, and that the section previously numbered 619.08 pertaining to violations has been renumbered to 619.07. "We now feel this is a final change and are now bringing this Chapter in front of Council," she said.
According to the committee report presented at the work session, the Law Director reviewed highlighted sections and advised on which language no longer aligns with current state requirements. The update is being advanced to the full council as proposed legislation; the transcript does not record a council vote on the code changes at this work session.
The meeting closed without a substantive objection to the committee's recommendation. The council adjourned at 7:09 p.m.
