Audit shows sewer and secondary-water funds exceeded budget, auditor warns

HENEFER, Utah — An audit presented to the Henefer Town Council on Feb. 3 found that the town’s sewer and secondary-water funds had actual expenditures that exceeded budgeted amounts, while the general fund recorded similar inflows and outflows, the auditor reported.
Kody Bland of Richey May told the council that most funds showed increases but noted the sewer fund had a decrease and both the sewer and secondary-water funds ran over budget. Bland said the town should be mindful of those variances going forward and prepare additional supporting documentation to meet a new Utah state requirement for audits.
Council members asked questions about budgetary compliance and about steps the town will take to provide the documentation the state now requires. Bland did not provide dollar figures for the fund overruns in the oral report recorded in the minutes.
The town indicated it will prepare the documentation in advance of the next audit cycle and monitor the sewer and secondary-water funds more closely in future budgeting.
