Burleson County sheriff reports 51 in jail, notes six open positions; judge flags festival safety

Chief Rios reported to the Burleson County Commissioners Court on Aug. 28 that the county jail held 51 inmates — 44 males and 7 females — and that the Sheriff’s Office currently has six vacancies: three in dispatch and three in the jail.
Rios’s report also noted that the Texas Department of Public Safety hosted an active-shooter training at the Civic Center on Aug. 23 with more than 80 attendees, an item the court heard under the Sheriff’s report.
County Judge Keith Schroeder told the court that jury trials are under way and raised concerns about safety at an upcoming music festival in Snook scheduled for October. Schroeder said the county is coordinating planning and enforcement with the Sheriff’s Office, DPS and the Snook Volunteer Fire Department in an effort to ensure the event is a positive community occurrence rather than a negative one.
No executive session was held and no county action was taken specifically in response to the staffing report; the court proceeded with the remainder of its agenda, approving routine items and adjourning.
