Judge reports election results, tax collections and names new environmental officer; commissioners give road updates

County Judge Keith Schroeder reported several administrative updates at the May 8 Burleson County Commissioners Court meeting, including unofficial election returns and recent tax-collection figures.
Judge Schroeder said the county’s misdemeanor collections for 2023 totaled $17,236 and felony collections totaled $15,373.85. He also told the court that the county’s new environmental officer will be Jody Tillery and that Tillery intends to assist with code enforcement. Schroeder said a proposed CAD vote failed in the May 6 election and that he and Commissioner Dwayne Faust attended a Cade Lake meeting with about 75 property owners considering formation of a Cade Lake organization.
Tax Assessor-Collector Jessica Lucero reported the Tax Office "went live on Wednesday with new taxing software," and Elections Administrator D. J. Oliver presented the unofficial results of the May 6 general and special elections.
The county auditor reported that audits and reviews are ongoing with outside auditors and presented a quarterly hotel tax report for second quarter FY2023 totaling $8,424.82.
Precinct reports included work on County Road 130 (Commissioner Faust), completion of a bridge on CR 277 and upcoming work on CR 211 (Commissioner Svec), shredding activity (Commissioner Hildebrand), and a request from Somerville Independent School District for a bus turnaround on County Road 443 (Commissioner Urbanosky).
The court recorded that there was no public forum and that the meeting proceeded to the items on the published agenda. The court adjourned after approving payments of bills and other routine items.
