Burleson County commissioners unanimously approve opioid settlement participation and routine agenda items

Burleson County Commissioners Court unanimously authorized county participation in opioid MDL settlement forms, approved multiple road and land-use permits, regional board appointments, contracts with Bleyl Engineering and others, accepted donations and authorized payment of bills.
County Judge Keith Schroeder and the Burleson County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a package of routine motions in their May 22, 2023 regular meeting, including authorization for county officials to execute participation and release forms in the Texas opioid multi-district litigation and multiple administrative and infrastructure actions.
The court authorized the County Judge or other designated officials to sign settlement participation and release forms in the matter styled County of Burleson v. Purdue Pharma, Inc. et al., MDL PRETRIAL CAUSE NO. 2018-63587, following a motion by Commissioner Vincent Svec and a second from Commissioner Robert (Bobby) Urbanosky. The motion passed on a unanimous vote of the court.
Also approved by unanimous votes were: authorization for Road & Bridge, Precinct 4 to clean ditches and place dirt on Settegast Ranch (moved by Commissioner Urbanosky, seconded by Commissioner Svec); Special Road Use Indemnity Agreements and permits for Wildfire Energy Operating, LLC for projects #2023-3-44 and #2303-3-45; simplified plat approval for Gary and Deborah Stautzenberger off County Road 366; appointments and reappointments to BVCOG criminal justice and homeland security boards; and a Beaux Breaux Fireworks permit to sell fireworks for Memorial Day.
The court approved a contract with Bleyl Engineering for engineering services related to General Land Office CDBG‑MIT funding and separately approved Bleyl’s proposed level of profit associated with that contract. Commissioners also authorized issuing a Request for Proposals to provide administrative services for a FY24 RAISE discretionary grant application.
Financial items approved included acceptance of two donations totaling $350 for the Burleson County Health Resource Center and the Treasurer’s monthly reports for April 2023. Commissioner David Hildebrand moved to authorize payment of county bills, a motion the court approved unanimously.
Each motion recorded in the minutes passed with the full court voting aye. No member recorded a nay vote, abstention or recusal during the meeting.
The court closed the session after commissioners’ reports on road maintenance and a brief County Judge report on growth and courthouse activity.
