At the Feb. 17, 2026 meeting of the Garfield County Board of County Commissioners, members documented concerns about payroll claims for Drug Court personnel and discussed a proposed employee health insurance rate increase, taking no action on the insurance item.
The concerns arose when commissioners reviewed payroll claims for salaries and retroactive pay for the Drug Court Coordinator, Drug Court Assistant and Drug Court Supervision Officer. According to the minutes, the board expressed concern and, after discussion with the Assistant District Attorney, the attorney advised documenting those concerns in the county commissioners’ minutes. Joe Kegin Jr. moved to approve the payroll claims (WARRANTS #2812-3070, county share of benefits $249,689.77); the motion passed with all members voting aye.
Under New Business, the board discussed an employee health insurance rate increase. The minutes record that the Board discussed the rate increase but took no action at the meeting.
The minutes show the board approved the payroll warrants despite the concerns and recorded the concerns for the public record. The board adjourned and scheduled its next meeting for Feb. 23, 2026.
