Garfield County commissioners approve routine transfers, publish 2025 salaries and declare Hunter Fire Department gear surplus

The Garfield County Board of County Commissioners on Feb. 9 approved a slate of routine financial and administrative actions including a $917,329.35 highway appropriation, publication of the county's 2025 employee salary list and the declaration and disposal of surplus equipment from the Hunter Fire Department.
Vice-Chairman Reese Wedel moved to approve the Cash Fund Estimate of Needs and Request for Appropriation for Highway Unrestricted for $917,329.35; the motion passed with Commissioners Clarence Maly, Wedel and Joe Kegin Jr. voting Aye. The board also approved multiple intra-department transfers, including $20,000 within the Assessor's office and smaller transfers within Election Board, the Commissioners' office and Highway.
Commissioner Joe Kegin moved to authorize publication of the Garfield County Annual Employees Salary list for 2025 in compliance with Title 19, O S 2011, Section 444; the board approved the publication. The list was read into the record and contains employee names and 2025 salary amounts, with an asterisk marking entries that represent less than a full year's salary.
The board approved a claim against the State Election Board seeking February 2026 salary reimbursement for Shari Monsees, Garfield County Election Board Secretary, in the amount of $5,599.58, and authorized a Letter of Approval for use of the courthouse lawn and gazebo for a Child Abuse Prevention Awareness wooden child display scheduled April 3'May 1, 2026.
The commissioners approved Resolution #26-29 declaring a list of Hunter Fire Department items surplus (including a Pulse Ox and multiple bunker coats and pants with purchase dates and itemized amounts) and then approved Resolution #26-30 to dispose of the listed items, finding them "obsolete and not economical to continue to use for county purposes." Both resolutions passed unanimously.
The board also appointed Malori Shire and Gabriel Marquez as receiving officers for Drug Court and removed Eileen Whitaker and Kim Bundy from those roles. Other financial actions approved included the Garfield County Treasurer Monthly Fee Report for $2,437.51 and numerous purchase orders and claims across general, highway, health, sheriff and rural fire funds.
The meeting included an IT monthly status report from Jon Turner; no action was taken on that report. With no further business, the board adjourned and set its next meeting for Feb. 17, 2026.
