Quay County commissioners approve safety grants, budget increase and payables

Quay County commissioners voted unanimously Feb. 9 to approve a series of routine actions, including two grant-related measures and a budgetary increase.
Dennis Garcia, Quay County Sheriff, asked the board to approve a Grant Agreement between the New Mexico Department of Transportation and the Quay County Sheriff’s Office for the "Buckle up and STEP" program; the motion to approve, made by Dallas Dowell and seconded by Brian Fortner, carried with Chairwoman Jerri Rush and both commissioners voting aye. Later in the meeting, Rico Marano, the county DWI coordinator, requested approval of Resolution No. 28, the county’s application for a local DWI grant and distribution program; the board approved the resolution by the same unanimous vote.
Samantha Salas, Quay County finance director, presented Resolution No. 29, a budgetary increase to county improvements. Commissioners approved the resolution (motion by Dallas Dowell, seconded by Brian Fortner) with Rush, Fortner and Dowell voting aye. Salas also presented the accounts payable report; the board approved the report after a motion by Brian Fortner and second by Dallas Dowell.
At the start of the meeting the board approved minutes from the Jan. 29 regular session and the meeting agenda; both procedural motions passed unanimously. No public comments were recorded.
