Boone County supervisors set levy-rate hearing, approve 2026–27 insurance rates and routine consent items

The Boone County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 25 scheduled a public hearing on the FY27 levy rate for March 25, 2026, approved health insurance rates for county employees and retirees for the 2026–27 plan year, and completed several routine consent agenda items during a meeting at the Boone County Courthouse.
Chairman Erich Kretzinger called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Supervisors Shawn Bryant and Scott Longhorn joined the meeting; all three voted on motions recorded in the minutes. Supervisor Shawn Bryant moved and Supervisor Scott Longhorn seconded a motion to set a public hearing on the FY27 levy rate for March 25 at 8:30 a.m. in the Boardroom; the motion passed, with all ayes.
The board approved the consent agenda, which the minutes record included meeting minutes for Feb. 18 and 19; a pay adjustment for full-time Deputy Cole Hilsabeck to $40.60 per hour effective Jan. 21, 2026 (six-month step); a status change for Cory Pestotnik from part-time to full-time at the landfill effective March 1, 2026; and authorization to sign 2026 applications for Homestead, Homestead 65+, Military and Disabled Veterans property tax credits and exemptions as recommended by the Boone County Assessor. The consent action also authorized payment of county claims totaling $275,212.62 and issuance of warrants #100222–#100260.
HR Director Katelynn Hensley was on the agenda to review the Boone County Service Pet Policy; the minutes indicate she was present to review and discuss the policy. The board approved health insurance rates for July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, and retiree health insurance rates for the same period after a motion by Supervisor Scott Longhorn, seconded by Supervisor Bryant; the motion carried with all ayes.
The board approved a contract with PDL Farms Inc. to acquire 0.13 acres of right-of-way and 0.17 acres of temporary easement in Section 32, Township 85N, Range 28W in Boone County for $4,300. Supervisor Shawn Bryant moved the contract approval; Supervisor Scott Longhorn seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Landfill Administrator John Roosa presented discussion on the Landfill Wind Closure Policy. Following discussion, Supervisor Bryant moved and Supervisor Longhorn seconded a motion to "table indefinitely any changes to the Landfill Wind Closure Policy;" the motion passed with all ayes.
Mike Salati of Planning & Development presented the Ironwood Acres Plat 1 Subdivision. The board voted to table indefinitely approval of the subdivision after a motion by Supervisor Bryant and a second by Supervisor Longhorn.
