Ottawa County commissioners confirm 2026 leadership, approve claims and routine budget items

The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners met Jan. 5, 2026, at the Ottawa County Courthouse and unanimously approved routine business, including minutes, claims and budget estimates. Chairman Mike Furnas and Commissioners Robert Clark and Scott Hilton voted aye on every recorded motion.
Commissioner Robert Clark moved and Commissioner Scott Hilton seconded approval of the Dec. 29, 2025 minutes and the claims docket presented by county staff. The claims list included payments to vendors such as TELECOMP HOLDING INC, OK NATURAL GAS CO and MIAMI SPECIAL UTILITY AUTHORITY; the motion passed with Furnas, Clark and Hilton recording aye votes.
On nominations for board leadership, Clark moved to approve Mike Furnas as chairman and Scott Hilton as vice chairman for 2026; the motion was seconded by Hilton and approved unanimously. The board also approved Resolution #2026.1, requested by Ottawa County District #2, to surplus or scrap a 2018 Salt Dog Buyers Spreader (Serial #2441).
The commissioners approved inventory submissions for Districts 1 and 3, allocations of motor vehicle and alcoholic beverage tax as presented by the county treasurer, and monthly reports submitted by the County Clerk, Treasurer, Health Department, Assessors and Election Board. They adopted cash fund estimates and appropriations for numerous accounts, including a Courthouse Improvement—ST fund balance item of $73,570.86 and multiple Highway Sales Tax accounts (listed in the meeting record).
The board accepted three checks noted in the record: check #109459498 from the State of Oklahoma for $4,100.84, check #1215 from ALG N LPS Opioid for $7,676.12 and check #1219 from TE LPS Opioid for $2,005.98. Commissioners reported routine maintenance activities; District 1 also reported work on line-of-sight issues and expressed thanks to law enforcement and EMS for responses.
With blanket purchase orders #2593-2602 approved, Commissioner Clark moved, Commissioner Hilton seconded, and the board adjourned following a unanimous vote. The meeting record is signed by Chairman Mike Furnas and County Clerk Robyn Mitchell.
