Kingston swears in Matthew Bonawits as detective

The Town of Kingston on Dec. 1 swore in Officer Matthew Bonawits as a detective during the council's regular voting meeting at the Kingston Municipal Building.
Mayor Jeffrey Coslett administered the oath and offered personal remarks about working with Bonawits, saying he was “very honored” to perform the ceremony and that Bonawits has the “full support of the guys that you work with.” Chief Richard Kotchik pinned the badge and called the promotion “a well-earned and deserved promotion,” saying, “Matt is a good friend of mine.”
Kotchik outlined Bonawits' service record since joining the department in 2016, noting Bonawits has served as a field training officer and helped train many of the department’s newest officers. Kotchik also said Bonawits holds an A-Cert for wiretaps and is certified in Cellebrite Mobile Forensic Examination, a capability Kotchik described as rare among Luzerne County officers and useful in major investigations.
The ceremony included applause from attendees and brief congratulatory remarks from council members. The council proceeded with its regular agenda after the ceremony.
