Rep. Tipton: KY 55 turn-lane project in FY24 plan; county given $820,000 legislative estimate

On KY 55 specifically, he described ongoing design work and multiple options under discussion — including a 2+1 cross-section or a five-lane design — and said the project has design money but requires phased funding. "They had adjourned a little after 11:00 pm last Wednesday, day 58 of the legislative session," Tipton told the Court while summarizing the session schedule and pending bills.
A legislative cost estimate included in the meeting packet from KYTC’s District 5 showed a total planning/design/utilities/construction estimate of $820,000, with an approximate two-year timeline to being ready for a construction letting. An email trail in the packet also indicated the project had been placed for FY24 funding and that KYTC is coordinating design and right-of-way considerations with local officials.
The county and Tipton also discussed related highway items on the six-year plan — turn lanes at other intersections, bridge replacements (including Dutchman’s Creek Road), and connector-road concepts — and Tipton said the county would get some equipment funding for the clerk’s office and sheriff’s court-security staffing in separate allocations.
What happens next: KYTC expects additional design work and will hold public meetings when designs are mature; the Court and state representatives will continue coordination on schedule and funding.
