Consultants outline Franklin‑Simpson comprehensive‑plan update, call for public input June 1 and June 20

Ed and Ryan Holmes of EHI Consultants reviewed their year‑and‑a‑half community engagement to support an update to the Franklin‑Simpson comprehensive plan, which they said has not been updated in roughly 17 years. The consultants described outreach including surveys, community conversations and stakeholder meetings and said an 18–20 member advisory committee has helped compile goals and objectives.
Top goals emerging from the process, the consultants said, include protecting agricultural lands, controlling growth, and maintaining a small‑town atmosphere. The consultants encouraged public participation in two upcoming events: a Community Conversation on June 1 and a Public Meeting on June 20. EHI expects to deliver a draft guidance document in about six months that will inform the planning commission’s formal update of the comprehensive plan.
City Manager Kenton Powell and Franklin City Community Development Director Tammie Carey attended the discussion; consultants said the final compilation will guide future planning decisions for the Franklin‑Simpson community.
