Pittsburg County emergency manager reports Winter Storm 'Fern' response and ongoing trainings

Denton Cossey, director of Emergency Management for Pittsburg County, presented the monthly director's report at the Feb. 2 commissioners meeting, detailing incident response, communications issues and upcoming training.
Commissioners asked about recent communications problems. Chairman Ross Selman asked whether fire pager issues had been corrected; Cossey said, "They have been resolved." Cossey recounted operational activity in January including E-Dispatch issues (Jan. 6–7), multiple structure and wildland fires (Haywood, Tannehill, North Buffalo Road), Internet outages and coordination of Winter Storm 'Fern' from Jan. 20–26, during which the county stood up the Emergency Operations Center and provided a canteen for road crews.
Cossey also listed planned and completed trainings (including Drone 107 and a wildfire assessment call) and noted upcoming events such as the OEMA conference in Oklahoma City (Feb. 17–20). He described routine EOC duties — credentialing fire departments, purchase orders, warehouse maintenance, and FEMA/EMPG documentation — and the department's continuing coordination with the state OEM and FEMA partners.
Selman recorded Cossey's assurances about communications fixes and the board did not take additional action beyond receiving the report.
