What the petitions request: The petitions (filed by landowners who identified properties in the subdivision) ask the board to close several east–west and north–south platted boundaries embraced in Section 23, Township 5 North, Range 15 East. The closure list includes the north–south boundary between Lots 52 and 37; the east–west boundaries between Lots 52 & 49, 48 & 37, 33 & 35, 32 & 34; and multiple other lot‑line segments in District 2. Petition forms included signatures and property descriptions furnished to the county clerk’s office.
Board action and procedure: Chairman Ross Selman made the motion to accept the petitions; the board voted unanimously to accept the petitions and to approve the public‑hearing notice (No. 26‑004). Under state law, the public hearing will provide a formal opportunity for affected property owners and other stakeholders to speak; the county clerk’s office will accept records and additional written comments for the hearing record.
Why owners say closure is justified: The standard statement on the petitions is that “there is not a public necessity for such roads,” and petitioners asserted that the right‑of‑way segments are undeveloped and not being used as public roads. The petitions appear to be consistent with the steps required by Oklahoma statute to request a road closure by petition and public hearing.
Next steps: The board set the public hearing for Feb. 17, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the Commissioners Conference Room. At that hearing the board will accept public testimony and then decide whether to proceed with formal closure proceedings. County staff told the board the petition forms and maps were on file in the county clerk’s office and would be available to interested parties.
