Snowflake council delays appointments to fill vacant seats until next meeting

Snowflake’s mayor and council heard presentations from several applicants for vacant council seats at the May 3 meeting but tabled appointments until the next meeting because Councilmember Cory Johnson was absent.
Applicants who addressed the council included Mark Sheen, JoAnne Guderian, Reid Stinnett, Tom Poscharsky, Kimberly Willis, Lora Jones and Joe Bjornn. Each described local ties and reasons for seeking appointment: community service, planning experience, attention to housing and infrastructure needs, and a desire to preserve small-town values. The mayor addressed applicants before the council moved to postpone seating until the council could vote with all members present.
The motion to table came from Councilmember Allison Perkins and was seconded by Councilmember Lynn Johnson; the motion passed unanimously with Councilmember Cory Johnson absent. Councilmembers thanked the applicants for their willingness to serve and asked staff to place the appointment on the next agenda so the council can act when a full complement of members is present.
Next steps: the council instructed staff to include the appointment and seating of the vacant positions on the next meeting agenda.
