Residents press Snowflake council for regular blading, town proposes twice‑year schedule for Rencher Road

At the June 7 Snowflake Town Council meeting, resident Brenda Thompson described long-standing deterioration on Rencher Road and the Savage turn area, saying the stretches have become "total washboards since no grading since August 2020" and that a culvert is beginning to sink again.
Mike Rogers of public works responded that the town has a program for unpaved roads but that materials alone run about $180,000 per mile (labor and equipment excluded). Rogers said the town prioritizes the most heavily used roads and recommended a twice-yearly blading schedule "as soon as monsoons hit and usually right after winter, potentially July/August and then February/March." Thompson asked for more frequent maintenance; Council agreed to start with the twice-per-year schedule (August and March) and directed staff and committees to pursue county options for millings or to seek conformity to county standards if residents want more substantial upgrades.
Resident Traci Daugherty also urged attention to blading near Savage and asked that ditch lines not be filled during maintenance.
Council placed the item for near-term action on scheduling and asked staff to monitor whether additional blades per year are needed.
