Pittsburg County commissioners approve routine claims, award bids and accept donations

At their Nov. 17 meeting, Pittsburg County commissioners approved claims and transfers, awarded a rescue-truck bid and ballots-printing bid, accepted donations including a $7,800 gift from the Choctaw Nation, and received reports from the Expo Center and Animal Shelter.
The Pittsburg County Board of County Commissioners approved routine claims and transfers and took a handful of procurement and donation actions during its Nov. 17 regular meeting in McAlester.
Chairman Charlie Rogers opened the session and, with Commissioners Ross Selman and Mike Haynes present, the board unanimously approved the meeting agenda and the Nov. 10 minutes. The board approved claims and purchase orders for payment and ratified several blanket purchase orders covering parts, fuel and services.
On procurement, the board awarded Bid No. 5 for a rescue truck to Redline Fire Equipment after a letter from the Savanna Fire Department recommending that vendor. Commissioners also awarded Bid No. 6 for printing of regular, absentee and sample ballots to Royal Printing following a recommendation from election staff that Royal’s no‑charge color options would be less expensive given next year’s anticipated ballot needs.
The board accepted multiple donations. In Resolution 26-125 commissioners approved a $7,800 donation from the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma to be deposited into the Choctaw Nation Donation Account (1235-1-2000-2205). In Resolution 26-126 they accepted a $100 donation from Liz Byars to the Animal Shelter Donation Account (1235-1-8020-2202). Resolution 26-127 authorized deposit of a $218.75 reimbursement from Allford Farm and Cattle Company LLC to the General/OSU Extension account for a replaced hay probe.
Other administrative actions included approval of Resolution 26-128 to advertise six-month bids for materials such as crushed stone, asphalt, road oils and hauling services (bids to be submitted with the affidavit required by 19 O.S. §1501), and Resolution 26-129 updating requisitioning and receiving officers for the Alderson Fire Department. The board also approved Resolution 26-130 canceling Purchase Order 3116 for District 3 (issued Oct. 6, 2025 to Comdata for $80).
During new business, Jail Administrator Jeff Daniels informed commissioners of an in-custody death the prior night that county staff characterized as a suicide; the individual was being held on an out-of-state warrant and the jail coordinated with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Medical Examiner. Commissioners were also notified of an 11:00 a.m. check presentation to the Tannehill Scipio Fire Department for a storm siren donation.
The board recessed and adjourned after signing approved claims. Future action items noted in the minutes include appointing representatives to the IREN Data Center TID‑TIF Committee by Dec. 1 and further consideration of a planned service agreement with Johnson Controls Fire Protection LP at a Nov. 23 meeting.
