Sevier County steering committee appoints two commissioners, confirms boards and cancels January meeting

The Sevier County Board of Commissioners Steering Committee met Dec. 9 and unanimously approved a slate of appointments, board confirmations and proclamations while accepting a final Dec. 16 agenda and cancelling the January 2025 meeting.
Mayor Larry Waters presented the first substantive item, a recommendation to appoint Rick Valentine to District 5, Seat B of the Sevier County Board of Commissioners. Commissioner Carroll Rauhuff moved to appoint Valentine and Commissioner Dale Hill seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Next, Mayor Waters presented a recommendation to appoint Barbara Parton to District 5, Seat C; Commissioner Ronnie Allen moved the appointment, Commissioner Aaron Foster seconded, and the committee approved the appointment unanimously.
The committee also approved nominations to the Sevier County Beer Board and accepted nominations for Judicial Commissioners; both motions passed on unanimous votes. Commissioners combined consideration of appointments to the Sevier County Industrial Development Board, confirmations to the Sevier County Public Building Authority and confirmations to the Sevier County Health, Educational, and Housing Facilities Board into a single action; the combined motion to accept the recommendations presented by Mayor Waters passed unanimously.
Mayor Waters presented a resolution authorizing the county mayor to issue a joint proclamation honoring the Sevier County High School football team for winning the TSSAA 5-A state championship. Commissioner Harold Pitner moved to accept the resolution, Commissioner Carroll Rauhuff seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. Mayor Waters said the proclamation will be presented later at an event scheduled by Sevier County High School and that the Board will be notified and invited.
The committee combined and approved five proclamations recognizing the public service of Dale Carr, Fred Atchley, Dylan Loy, Jack McMahan and Frank Parton. Commissioner Dale Hill moved to accept the proclamations, Commissioner Rauhuff seconded, and the motions passed unanimously.
On schedule items, the Steering Committee accepted the Board of Commissioners final agenda for Dec. 16, 2024; the committee voted to cancel the January 2025 meeting and authorized the county mayor to cancel the February 2025 meeting pending agenda items. Commissioner Ray Ogle moved to accept the agenda and cancel the January meeting and Commissioner Ronnie Allen seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner Carroll Rauhuff moved to adjourn; Commissioner Aaron Foster seconded and the Steering Committee adjourned at 5:11 p.m.
