Members of the Colfax County Lodgers Tax Advisory Board discussed on Oct. 21 whether lodgers-tax funds should cover fees or damage deposits for events at the Colfax County Event Center. Board member Michael Muniz said the County Manager asked him to investigate the possibility; Chair Laurie Bunker and board member Michael Brown said they opposed using lodgers-tax funds for damage or missing-property costs.
Muniz said he is exploring raising fees and deposits to ensure damage or replacement costs are covered. Bunker and Brown argued that lodgers-tax revenue should not be used for event damage liabilities. The board did not make a motion or take a vote on the policy question at the meeting.
No formal policy change was adopted. The board directed follow-up: staff (County Manager/Clerk) will investigate fee and deposit adjustments as an alternative to using lodgers-tax funds. The matter may return to the board for a vote once staff provides recommendations.
