Legislative committee sends early property-tax collection resolution to full Franklin County commission

Grant Benere, chairman of the Franklin County Board of Commissioners Legislative Committee, called the committee to order at 5:30 p.m. July 2 in the community room of the Franklin County Annex Building.
The committee unanimously approved routine business items and moved several matters to the full commission. Committee member Tyler Bauer moved to approve the minutes from June 6, 2024; Glenn Summers seconded the motion and the committee voted all aye.
On old business the committee reviewed a vendor service agreement. Chairman Benere asked whether members had reviewed the agreement and whether anyone wanted to move it to the full commission. Committee member Tyler Bauer moved to forward the agreement; Glenn Summers seconded and the committee voted unanimously to send it on.
In new business the committee considered a resolution "to permit early collection of property tax as authorized by Tennessee law," based on materials the trustee provided comparing surrounding counties. The trustee’s handout noted that the neighboring-county practices would not impose a charge on Franklin County. Committee member Tyler Bauer and Chairman Grant Benere agreed to sponsor the resolution. Committee member Glenn Summers moved that the resolution be sent to the full commission; Tyler Bauer seconded. The motion carried on a unanimous voice vote.
The committee also approved eight notary applications on a motion by Dale Schultz, seconded by Tyler Bauer, with all members voting in favor. No members of the public offered comments during the public-comment period.
Committee member Tyler Bauer moved to adjourn at 5:34 p.m.; Glenn Summers seconded and the meeting ended by unanimous vote.
