Dickson County Commission adopts hazard mitigation plan, backs broadband investment and approves $50,000 settlement; appointments and routine items pass

At its Feb. 22 meeting the Dickson County Commission unanimously adopted a revised FEMA‑aligned hazard mitigation plan, approved a resolution supporting Dickson Electric broadband investment, accepted a $17,839.61 Homeland Security grant, authorized a $50,000 lawsuit settlement and approved multiple routine appointments and notaries.
The Dickson County Commission on Feb. 22 passed a slate of resolutions and routine actions during a 15‑minute session chaired by County Mayor Bob Rial.
Major measures approved included adoption of a five‑year Revised Hazard Mitigation Plan developed to meet Federal Emergency Management Agency requirements; a resolution supporting investment by Dickson Electric Service in essential internet infrastructure to expand access to underserved areas; and authorization to apply for and accept a $17,839.61 grant from the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security to enhance emergency response capabilities. Each measure passed on unanimous aye voice votes after motions and seconds recorded in the minutes.
The commission also suspended the rules to vote on a pending lawsuit and authorized County Mayor Rial to settle Theodore Roosevelt Baker III v. Dickson County Sheriff’s Department et al., with total settlement payments of $50,000, of which the county’s insurer will pay $10,000. The motion to authorize the settlement was made by Commissioner James C. Dawson and seconded by Commissioner Carl Buckner and passed unanimously.
Other business approved included amendments to the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office budget to expand Tennessee Court Information System (TNCIS) services; appointments and reappointments to the Planning Commission, E911 Board, Water Authority of Dickson County and the Dickson County Jail Disciplinary Board; and approval of a slate of notaries submitted by County Clerk Luanne Greer. The commission also authorized installation of a stop sign on Fannie Branch Road at Nancy Shawl Road. The meeting adjourned at 7:15 P.M.
