Mercer County Commission approves $499,000 Beulah building payment, rejects SRF consulting MOU

The Mercer County Commission on Feb. 25, 2026, approved a $499,000 payment to R&R Properties for the purchase of the Beulah Building and rejected a memorandum of understanding for SRF consulting with a data center applicant, the commission reported at a special meeting in Stanton.
Chairman Rick Bauman called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. and recited the pledge of allegiance. Commissioners present were Jamee Folk, Mark Pierce, Gene Wolf, and Casey Voigt; Carmen Reed, auditor, and county staff including Tax Director/Land Use Administrator Jennifer Neumiller and Deputy Auditor Mark Erhardt were also listed as present. Next Era representatives Kristy Smith and Stephanie Morales and Dan Arens of the Hazen Star attended as well.
Commissioner Casey Voigt moved to approve the meeting agenda; Commissioner Mark Pierce seconded. All commissioners voted aye and the motion carried.
On the SRF consulting memorandum of understanding between the data center applicant and Mercer County, Commissioner Casey Voigt moved to approve the MOU and Chairman Rick Bauman seconded the motion. The motion failed: Voigt voted aye; Bauman, Pierce and Folk voted nay and the motion did not pass.
Later, Commissioner Jamee Folk moved to authorize a $499,000 payment to R&R Properties to complete the Beulah Building Purchase Agreement; Commissioner Casey Voigt seconded. All commissioners voted aye and the motion carried.
The special meeting adjourned at 3:11 p.m. The commission noted that the next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in the boardroom of the Mercer County Government Center in Stanton, North Dakota.
