Board recertifies SBA tower permit, OKs $2,000 to STEPS for domestic violence services; VDOT previews Hardy Road timeline

The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors unanimously recertified the conditional use permit (CUP) for the existing 250-foot wireless telecommunication facility owned by SBA Communications on tax parcel 085-0A-0-5 (871 Longview Drive, Brodnax). County Attorney Frank Rennie noted the original CUP, approved Aug. 12, 1999, included a requirement for emergency equipment placement and said SBA agreed to honor that provision; the board voted to recertify the CUP.
The board also approved a request from STEPS, Inc. to reallocate funds originally budgeted for Madeline’s House. Shawn Rozier, vice president of housing for STEPS, said Madeline’s House had ceased operations and STEPS had been contacted by the state domestic violence hotline to provide transportation and temporary hotel sheltering until a shelter bed is found. The board unanimously transferred $2,000 to STEPS, Inc. for temporary domestic-violence victim services.
In transportation updates, VDOT’s Kevin Smith said Pearson Construction was the highest bidder for the Hardy Road construction project; a pre-construction meeting was scheduled for the following week, with work expected to begin in mid-February and finish by May 1. VDOT and the county will host a 'Pardon Our Dust' informational meeting on Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. in the General District Courtroom.
