Lunenburg supervisors re-elect Slayton as chair, Bacon as vice chair; adopt 2023 schedule and ethics code

At the Jan. 13 reorganizational meeting the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors unanimously re-elected Charles R. Slayton as chairman and Frank W. Bacon as vice-chairman and adopted the 2023 meeting schedule, holiday calendar, code of ethics and Robert’s Rules of Order.
Charles R. Slayton was unanimously re-elected chairman of the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors at the board’s reorganizational meeting on Jan. 13, 2023. Supervisor Mike Hankins nominated Slayton and Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover seconded the nomination; the board approved the re-election on a roll-call vote.
At the same meeting, Supervisor Hankins nominated Frank W. Bacon for vice-chairman, a nomination seconded by Hoover; Bacon was unanimously re-elected. Following the elections, the board adopted its 2023 Invocation and Meeting Schedule and 2023 Holiday Calendar, its Code of Ethics and Procedures, and Robert’s Rules of Order by unanimous votes.
County Administrator Tracy M. Gee opened the meeting and presented the chair with the gavel. County Attorney Frank Rennie led the Pledge of Allegiance and gave an invocation before the board moved to routine business. The board took no conflict-of-interest disclosures at the start of the meeting.
The reorganizational actions are procedural steps that set meeting governance and expectations for the year. The board’s unanimous votes establish leadership and procedural rules that will guide how future meetings are conducted and how agenda items are managed through 2023.
The board then proceeded to its regular agenda, which included presentations from Meridian Waste, VDOT and county staff, several recognitions for local high-school athletic programs, and routine permitting and budget actions.
