Lunenburg receives $1.21 million in state grant aid; planning reviews ahead for solar projects and broadband expansion

Director Taylor Newton told the Board the County has been awarded $1,211,787.50 in grant funds from the Commonwealth Council for FY2022–23 and has received more than $1 million to date related to the Red Brick solar facility.
Newton said she led a visit by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership to the County on Feb. 13 and provided an update on broadband line extensions; she advised residents with address-specific questions to contact Kinex. She also reported that three solar facility applications will go before the Planning Commission in April for 2232 review and, if advanced, will be presented to the Board in the following months.
County Attorney Frank Rennie separately noted that a motion to dismiss the Friends of Meherrin petition against the Red Brick Solar conditional use permit will be heard on April 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the historic courthouse; he indicated hope the dismissal would be granted.
