County schedules April 20 work session as Administrator outlines budget pressures and facility priorities

County Administrator Tracy M. Gee told the Board she expects a 5-7% cost-of-living adjustment for state-funded positions that could translate into roughly $487,000 in increased pay, fringe benefits and insurance costs. She said the Piedmont Regional Jail cost could increase about $172,000 and the school system projected ADM would raise local funds needs by $148,400. Gee also noted the new radio communications system is due to be operational by October, which will start maintenance costs, and that the solid waste fund has seen large expense increases because of the new $12/hour minimum wage and may require host-fee transfers from the general fund if depletion continues.
Gee requested and the Board agreed to a budget work session on April 20, 2023 at 6 p.m. In her monthly report she also referenced potential acquisition of property adjacent to the county airport (owner Nancy King) pending appraisal and grant availability, planned tree trimming, runway paving coordination, and facility flooring replacement and restroom additions to support the clerk's office.
