Lunenburg awards airport paving contracts after state aviation funding approval

The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors awarded contracts June 8 to New Field, Inc. for pavement improvements at the Lunenburg Airport after the Virginia Department of Aviation approved state funding for the projects.
Administrator Tracy M. Gee said DOAV approved $205,925 for apron rehabilitation and $719,935 for Runway 2-20 rehabilitation. The county advertised the work on Virginia’s eVA procurement website and received two bids; New Field, Inc. submitted the lowest/responsive bid. The board awarded the runway project at $699,682 and the apron project at $252,857. Gee said roughly 95% of the runway project is covered by DOAV funds and about 80% of the apron project is covered by DOAV funds; the remaining cost is local match from county funds.
The awards move forward planned rehabilitation work at the airport’s apron and runway; county staff will proceed with contract execution and project scheduling.
