Lunenburg Board continues FY2023-24 budget to June 29 after adjustments for ARPA and SRO matches

Lunenburg County Administrator Tracy M. Gee reviewed revisions to the proposed FY2023-24 budget at the June 8 Board of Supervisors meeting and requested the board continue consideration to a special meeting on June 29.
Gee said the county received an ARPA grant of $259,000 earmarked for the Sheriff’s Office to purchase vehicles and mobile technology; the funds will be placed in Fund 316 for Emergency Services. She also reported three school resource officer grants had been awarded but require a 26% local match, increasing both revenue and expense projections. As a result, the county’s planned use of reserves would increase by $239,035, bringing the total use of reserves to $1,692,634. Gee said she would carry over $75,000 to the Capital Outlay Fund for radio-system consulting and that additional rolling-stock funds for local fire departments are proposed, to be funded by solar siting agreement fees.
Supervisor Frank Bacon moved to continue budget discussions to June 29 at 6 p.m.; the motion passed unanimously. The continuation gives staff time to incorporate the SRO local-match calculations and other adjustments before adoption.
The board also recorded routine administrative items during the meeting, and will reconvene June 29 for a final budget adoption and appropriation vote.
