Lunenburg supervisors approve VDOT Secondary Six‑Year Plan, add four rural road projects

LUNENBURG — The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors voted May 11 to adopt the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Secondary Six‑Year Plan (SSYP) for fiscal years 2023/24–2029/30, adding four county road projects and approving the accompanying budget and resolution.
Kevin Smith of VDOT told the board the Transportation Committee recommended adding 3.0 miles of Hinkle Road, 0.6 mile of Hill Top Road, 0.31 mile of Bragg Road and 0.7 mile of Trailer Court Road to the plan, with a total estimated construction budget of $928,500. No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
Supervisor Frank Bacon moved to approve the SSYP and related resolution; Supervisor Alvester Edmonds seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. The board also entered and exited a public hearing on the plan during the meeting.
The approved SSYP listing and the Secondary System Construction Program budget for FY2023/24 will guide VDOT’s scheduling and funding for the county’s secondary road projects over the coming years. The county’s VDOT contact said routine rural‑rustic projects including tar‑and‑gravel applications and primary‑road mowing are ongoing in the region.
