At its July 13 meeting the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a series of routine budgetary, procurement and appointment items.
The board approved Supplemental Appropriation FY2023 #5, adding $200,000 to the FY2023 School Board budget following administrative staffing changes in the school division. The motion was made by Supervisor Frank Bacon and seconded by Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover.
County staff reported three bids to remove airport obstructions; the board accepted the lowest bid from TreeHuggers Tree Service of South Hill for $24,850, with the Department of Aviation covering 80% of the cost and the county responsible for the remaining 20%.
The Sheriff’s Office was authorized to transfer $3,967.90 from vacancy savings into uniforms ($2,000), training ($983.95) and travel ($983.95) for FY2023. The board also approved increasing the Sheriff’s Benchmark Visa credit-card limit from $3,500 to $5,000.
The board reappointed Mrs. Sonya R. Blackwell to the Piedmont Alcohol Safety Action Board of Directors, with the term expiring June 30, 2025. The board also approved a request from Meherrin Fire & Rescue to apply rolling stock capital funds plus its FY2023-24 annual capital appropriation (total $110,000) toward the apparatus payment for Engine 5.
Administrator Tracy Gee requested and the board approved using $83,000 of Lunenburg’s ARPA allocation—one member locality’s share of an approximately $500,000 bar screen replacement project at the Piedmont Regional Jail—to cover the county’s portion. Lastly, the board approved providing $3,000 per team from Meridian donation funds to three Lunenburg Youth Baseball state championship teams to assist with World Series travel and expenses.
