Schools report staffing and finance updates; VDOT outlines roadwork and a Sept. 11 bridge closure

School and roadwork updates were provided to the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors at its Aug. 10 meeting.
School Finance Director Jamyce Watson reviewed monthly revenue and expense figures for July and cautioned that some balances are temporarily negative because accruals are processed daily; she said final FY2022–2023 figures should be ready by mid-September. Interim School Superintendent Dr. Sharon Stanislas said open houses drew strong participation that day, reported 19 new teachers completed orientation and professional development, and said the district is conducting a grant-funded salary study for all staff; she said results will be shared with the School Board and Board of Supervisors.
Kevin Smith of the Virginia Department of Transportation gave the county’s monthly VDOT report. He said all rural-rustic projects for the year will be completed by the end of August, reported that a portion of Eubanks Road will be closed starting Sept. 11 for bridge repair, and said Main Street in Victoria is nearly repaved. Smith added the second round of cutting along primary roads is nearly complete and that work on the second part of the Hardy Road project had begun, including trenching and widening from Courthouse Road to Old Mansion Road.
