Board honors Lunenburg all-star youth teams; sports board asks for more funding

The board unanimously approved Resolutions of Achievement recognizing four Lunenburg youth all-star teams: the Girls’ Softball Debs Division All-Stars (state champions and World Series representative), the Youth Baseball Coach Pitch All-Stars (state champions), the Youth Baseball Minor League All-Stars (state champions) and the Youth Baseball Major League All-Stars (Dixie Youth World Series champions).
Brad D’Amico of the Lunenburg Youth Sports Board thanked the board for the recognition and told supervisors that program costs — insurance, supplies, uniforms and entry fees — are substantial. He asked the board to consider additional funding in the future and suggested forming a committee to improve communication between the county and youth sports organizations.
The board did not vote on additional funding at the meeting; comments were recorded during the recognition and public-comment portion of the agenda.
