County approves up to $68,435 from Ambulance Fund to add Motorola console to Central Dispatch

Central Dispatch Director Kim Elkie told the Finance Ways & Means Committee on Nov. 12 that the department had acquired three Motorola 7500 radio consoles used from Roscommon — two earmarked as backups and one intended for installation at a fourth dispatch station.
Elkie said the consoles are interim equipment and that a full radio console system replacement likely will be needed by 2030 at an estimated cost of about $500,000. To bridge operations, the department requested and the committee recommended approval of up to $68,435 from the Ambulance Fund to cover installation and setup of an additional Motorola 7500 console; the equipment itself is already owned by Central Dispatch.
The committee moved to recommend the allocation and recorded a roll call vote in favor (Commissioner Bill Peterson was excused). The motion includes authorization for the Chairman of the Board or the County Administrator to sign necessary documents.
County officials noted the installation cost might decrease by roughly $3,700 depending on licensing needs; the installation request was presented as temporary measures until replacement technology is procured.
The allocation authorizes the Treasurer to make any necessary line-item transfers to complete the action. No procurement contract details or vendor agreements were specified in the minutes; the consoles were described as used units acquired from Roscommon.
