Harrison County health administrator presents 2024 report, citing septic permits, inspections, vaccines and CPR training

Jennifer Caffrey, administrator of the Harrison County Health Department, presented the department's 2024 annual report to the County Council on June 9, outlining inspection activity, vaccinations and community training programs.
Caffrey told the council the department issued 186 septic-tank permits and conducted 366 septic inspections in 2024. She said environmental health staff performed 343 routine food inspections and investigated 117 food-related complaints. The department also conducted 21 pool inspections and carried out four inspections of sites suspected to be former methamphetamine labs.
On preventive services, Caffrey reported the department administered 606 influenza vaccinations during the year. She highlighted the county-funded CPR program as a major outreach success, saying it provided 885 HeartSaver classes and that staff distributed 132 doses of naloxone (Narcan) as part of overdose-response efforts.
Caffrey noted a leadership change in 2024, reporting the appointment of Dr. Lisa Clunie as the county's health officer and several new board members. She said those leadership additions supported ongoing program delivery and compliance work.
The presentation provided the council a snapshot of the department's regulatory and community-health activity for 2024; Caffrey did not request a specific appropriation in the oral report. The council did not take any formal vote on the annual report during the meeting.
