Benzie County removes two positions from roster after board votes

The Benzie County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 10 approved two amendments to the 2023–24 employee position roster, removing the Solid Waste/Recycling Coordinator position and removing the Jail Administrator position.
Commissioner Warsecke moved and Commissioner Sauer seconded the motion to remove the Solid Waste/Recycling Coordinator position; the roll-call vote passed with Commissioners Cunningham, Markey, Nye, Roelofs, Sauer and Warsecke voting yes and Commissioner Jeannot voting no.
Sheriff Rosa asked the board to table the decision on the Jail Administrator position and said he was available to answer questions. The board voted to remove the Jail Administrator position after a motion by Commissioner Nye, seconded by Commissioner Cunningham; the roll-call vote recorded Cunningham, Markey, Nye, Roelofs and Warsecke as voting yes and Commissioners Jeannot and Sauer as voting no.
The motions change the county’s roster for the 2023–24 fiscal period; the board did not include additional operational details or immediate reassignments in the motions when recorded on the meeting minutes.
